We are based in Bali, an Indonesian province that has two international convention centres (BICC and BNDCC) and various convenient facilities. This world-class MICE venue has exposed us to many international conferences, workshops, training, meetings, and exhibitions. Besides, we also work in Lombok, Flores, Kalimantan, Sulawesi, Papua, and other places in Indonesia where international development projects are located. Our team of interpreters are happy to deliver effective interpretation from remote areas to modern cities and from the lush forest to the fancy conference hall.
Our interpretation services come in different modes namely simultaneous interpretation, consecutive interpretation, and whispered interpretation. In addition to catering legal interpretation at police stations and courts, we also provide interpretation in community-based setting either simultaneously or consecutively.
Simultaneous Interpretation (SI)
Simultaneous Interpretation happens at the conference, workshop, training, meeting, focus group discussion and other events with speakers of different languages. The interpreter sits inside a booth and interprets the message from the source language to the target language in real-time. In events with a smaller number of participants, the interpreter may work booth less. In Simultaneous Interpretation, the use of a technology called Simultaneous Interpretation System (SIS) is a must. The SIS transmits the interpretation feed, allowing the participants to hear the real-time interpretation through the headphones of multi-channel receivers. SIS can be installed in full setup or used as a portable device.
Remote Simultaneous Interpretation (RSI)
During the Covid-19 Pandemic, we keep on supporting our clients by providing Remote Simultaneous Interpretation (RSI) and Remote Consecutive Interpretation (RCI) services. These services are delivered through various online conferencing and meeting platforms such as Zoom, Interprefy, Kudo, WebEx, and Microsoft Teams. Lexico has the experience and familiarity to effectively bridge the communication in a full online or hybrid settings.
Consecutive Interpretation (CI)
In Consecutive Interpretation, the interpreter speaks after the speaker has finished speaking. Ideally, the speech is divided into segments consisting of three to five sentences, and the interpreter sits or stands beside the speaker, listening and taking notes as the speaker deliver the message. Unlike Simultaneous Interpretation, Consecutive Interpretation does not require specific technology or equipment. It requires a good memory to retain the message and note-taking skills.
Whispered Interpretation (WI)
Whispered Interpretation, or Chuchotage in French, is a technique used by the interpreter to deliver interpretation service to a limited number of participants. In this mode of interpretation, the interpreter sits or stands next to, between or behind the participants and whispers a summary of the speech delivered by the speaker. Whispered Interpretation is ideal for 1 or 2 participants only.
Legal Interpretation
Legal interpretation occurs in legal settings and situations e.g. notary office, police station and courtroom that involve speakers of different languages. Each country has a different legal system with unique procedures, concepts, and terms. To achieve effective legal interpretation, the interpreters must be well versed in legal terminology and aware of various legal systems applied in different countries. Legal cases, both civil and criminal, involving foreigners in Indonesia require this type of interpretation.
Community Interpretation
This branch of interpretation occurs when speakers of different languages have to communicate effectively in community-based settings e.g. community centre, village, and forest conservation area. Countries and organisations running a sustainable development project at a specific location in Indonesia use this type of interpretation for a survey, study, exchange, monitoring and evaluation. Community Interpretation can be done either consecutively or simultaneously using Portable SIS devices.
